Ilene E. Shapiro

Ilene E. Shapiro is a Partner with Grund & Leavitt. She has distinguished herself practicing in the field of family law for over thirty-five years, both on the trial court and appellate court levels.

She has had considerable experience handling issues from the trial and appeal of custody issues to complex financial contests. Ms. Shapiro has been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer for 2004 through 2014 and an Illinois Super Lawyer for 2006 through 2014. She has been awarded an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell (highest designation).

Ms. Shapiro was honored for her pro bono activities with the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Distinguished Service Award in 1996.

Ms. Shapiro has authored and co-authored numerous publications on various family law topics. She has lectured for the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Chapter of the AAML, Illinois C.P.A. Society, Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education, Professional Education Systems and Chicago Kent—IIT Law School.

Ms. Shapiro is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, having served a two-year term as President of the Illinois Chapter. She has also held various other offices in the Illinois Chapter, including President Elect, Vice-President, and Secretary. She served on the Illinois Chapter’s Board of Managers for many years and prior to that as its legal counsel. Ms. Shapiro is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Lake County Bar Association. She also served as President of the Board of Directors of Journeys of the Heart of Illinois, an international adoption agency.
